Artists have always been attracted to the quaint town for years, in fact, Seadrift has been nicknamed "The City of Murals." Local businesses and government offices are home to many of the murals painted by local and guest artists.
Seven exist today, but in past years Seadrift has canvassed as many as fourteen. The mural, Jim's Net Shop was once painted on the north side of Childress Insurance Agency located in downtown on Main Street. While Childress Insurance Agency is no longer there, the mural still exists today. Scenes of fishing, hunting, canoe races, children playing and many day to day activities are the focal point of the murals.

Summer fantasy, Ladies Only Fish House and Brown Pelicans exists today on the restroom at the East End of Bayfront Park on Bay Avenue.

The Water Safari mural showcases The Texas Water Safari, a long, tough nonstop, marathon canoe racing adventure. The race traverses 260 miles of challenging rivers and bays ending at the flagpole in Seadrift. In 1963 was the first race of the Texas Water Safari. Participants are mentally and physically ranked among the best. The mural illustrates Robert Chatham and his partner, an elite group of finishers who strive to earn the coveted Texas Water Safari patch. It is located next to Dick's Food Store on Hwy 185.

Local artists welcomed Troan Tran of Palacios to Seadrift. One of four murals he painted, Palms at the Bayfront, located on the north side of where Cunningham's Bait Stand was at the end of Main Street at the Harbor.

Another of Betty Moone's murals, Sander's Bait House was painted at the north side of where Bud's Fish House was, the corner of Main Street and Bay Avenue.

The Jailbreak! mural features four scenes, still there today you may find it at the historic jail. Located one block east of Main, Corner of Houston and Rose Street.

School pride! The Seadrift School also features a mural which illustrates a pirate sitting on the bayfront perhaps planning his next voyage?

This mural is located on the south side of the Justice of the Peace's office.
"An amazing artist to watch," commented Margaret Chatham. "He just grabbed a roller at morning and by afternoon this entire mural was done."

I’m wanting to move to the coast and had originally thought Rockport. However I like the quaintness and less populated area that I’m seeing in Seadrift. Hope to come spend a few days down there soon. Looks GREAT !!!

Mike,
Seadrift is a great little community. Joe & I moved here about 5 years ago…and have never regretted it, not once.
This town has heart. Come on down. We would love for you to become a “seadrifter”.

I’ve enjoyed the website, and though I live in San Antonio, I have an especially sentimental spot in my heart for Seadrift.
My dad was born there in 1914, and I wonder where can I get
pictures of what may have been around then? He, and everyone from his family are gone. Would mean so mch to me.
